The WordPress Restrict Email domains plugin allows you to limit/restrict user registration on your WordPress/ BuddyPress site by email domains. You can limit the registration by specific emails or domains or just the domain extensions(like .edu/.com)

This plugin is best suited for intranets, educational institutes or the cases when you do not want to allow registration from everyone but a subset of users based on their email address. If you want to limit registrations on your WordPress, BuddyPress, WooCommerce website to the emails belonging to only specified domains, this plugin is for you. It goes one step further and allows you to allow users by emails, or domains or even the domain extensions. So, if you are building an educational website and only want to allow the users from .edu domain, just put .edu in the settings. Same goes with the domain. If you are building a corporate network and only want to allow users from your own network, put your domain name in the settings.

It’s easy and efficient. The use of regular expression gives it  a lot of flexibility. This plugin helps fight spam too.

The BuddyPress  User Profile Visibility Manages gives following controls to the users.

Features

  • A user can show/hide his profile in Members Directory

  • A user can hide/show his profile in directory searches

  • A user can hide/show his last active time

  • A user can make set his/her account to following status:-

    • Everyone: Everyone can see his/her profile

    • Logged In Users Only: Only logged in users can see his/her profile

    • Friends Only: Only his/her friends can see/access his account

    • My Group Members: Only members of the groups of which the user is member can see the profile.

    • Only Me: That’s private. Only the user and the super administrator can access his/her profile

  • A user can allow/block  friendship requests

  • Depending on the settings, the user will not be visible anywhere( if they choose so), even will be hidden from widgets etc.

  • Admins can set the plugin to be admin only( Only admin can change/update or set default settings in that mode).

  • Simple hooks to customize the available privacy levels.

  • New: restrict access to members directory. You can select All, Logged In or Site admin only.

So, that is a mix of privacy + visibility or you can say, it allows your users to have preferences over what they want.

BuddyPress Limit Friendship plugin allows site owners to limit the number of friends a user can have on their network. It does so based on the 2 criteria.

The criteria are

  • Number of Existing Friends

  • Number of Existing Friends + Number of Pending Friendship Request Sent & Received

Here is the admin screen(You can see it by going to settings->BuddyPress->Settings)

When you select the criteria as No. of existing Friends, The plugin only checks for existing friends count(for both the users) and will limit the user to be added as friend or to add a new friend if they have

When you select the criteria as No. Of existing Friends + Friendship Requests, the plugin will check for both the users that they don’t have crossed the limit(The sum of Friendship Requests sent, which is pending; The friendship requests received  which is not approved and the total no. of exiting friends is less than the allowed limit for both the users).

This plugin is also compatible with our Extended Friendship request plugin.

Here is an example of what happens when a user tries to add new friend.

The best use case will be to use this plugin in a membership based site and ask users to upgrade account for more friends or to use it as a tool for spam control(Do not allow too many friends quickly).

For now, I have allowed users to accept any pending request they already have even if the limit is over. Please do let me know if you  want that and I will include it.
